Day 1
"Vamos para Praia" Who doesn’t like the beach? When you go to the South of Portugal, one of your reasons is the beach. And Faro has a great one. Praia de Faro is situated on an island called Ilha de Faro. Access is through a narrow bridge, crossing the Ria Formosa natural park and on the other side of the island there is the sea. The beach is situated on the ocean side and has about 5 kilometres. A road which follows the beach in both directions and its lined with Portuguese holiday homes and small beach bars, if you like walking you can explore them or you can just enjoy the whole day in the warm sand listening to the sound of the waves and watch as the sun is moving down to the horizon.

Day 2
"It's summer time!" There is never enough time on the beach. You shouldn't miss a visit to one of the Faro islands. You can choose to go to Ilha Deserta, an islands in the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Ilha Deserta is a hotspot of biological diversity – different species of birds, various types of plants and flowers, crustaceans, chameleons and many others. The island itself is a touch of paradise with endless, practically deserted beaches and clear sea.
|
"Lighthouse" Farol Island is one of these islands, which forms a sandy barrier between the sea and the Ria Formosa Natural Park. In the small village of Farol is home mostly to fishermen or cultivators of shellfish. Despite its urban and tourist occupation, as you follow the beach to the east, it gradually becomes more peaceful.
|
"Island paradise" Ilha da Culatra, also an island that is a part of the Ria Formosa National Park located south of the Faro city. The island attracts with its beautiful natural scenery, the combination of wildlife, golden beaches and calm crystal clear waters on one side and large lagoons on the other. Or you have the opportunity of visiting all three islands in one boat tour. It is worth it.

Day 3
“City Life” The heart of Faro, literally. Marina, the centre of the city where you can complete your adventure. You can walk and chill in the beautiful Jardim Manuel Bivar. You can look around and explore the nearest surroundings and see the Faro sing, a statue of a woman from the ocean guarding the boats in marina.
Then you can take a walk through the pedestrianised shopping streets, scenic plazas and variety of restaurants and bars, bakeries, shops and much more. |
"Back to the History" Not very far away you will find the entrance to The Old City, through Arco da Vila, a monumental neoclassical arch with remains of the original Moorish wall. Then you can wander along the Muralhas de Faro, a wall with pre-Romanesque origins that encircle the old town. If you are enjoying your walk around the old town, you will definitely encounter the Faro Cathedral, also known as Igreja de Santa Maria or Sé Catedral de Faro. You can enjoy a nice view of the Ria Formosa from the restaurant O Castelo.
|
"Bones" If you enjoyed the architecture of Faro Cathedral, you shouldn't skip the Igreja do Carmo, a church that was built in the middle of the 18th century. Carmo church, with its Baroque facade and twin bell towers is one of the most important historical monuments in the Algarve.
Inside you can also visit The Capela dos Ossos, the famous Chapel of Bones, which displays the bones of more than 1,200 monks from the Carmelite cemetery. |
"It's the Final Downtown" After a long day of new experiences, there is nothing better to do then enjoying a delicious meal in Downtown, one of the best places to enjoy a good atmosphere in the evenings. The beautiful streets with a typical Portuguese sidewalk are a big part of the city’s history. With several shops with regional products, restaurants, cafes, bars, the downtown of Faro is definitely the right place to enjoy the night time.
