This article will show you some of the favorite places and bars of Erasmus and international students in Faro in 2019. Have you ever heard of Faro? A beautiful all-round city in the south of Portugal, the capital of the Algarve region. Surrounded by islands and hills, the city has the honor of being one of the well-preserved places in the Algarve. Faro retains its typical Portuguese urban atmosphere, thanks to the combination of interesting monuments, rich heritage and traditional Portuguese character, Faro is a popular destination for tourists as well as students. As a coastal town, it offers warm sunny weather during much of the year, which is ideal for a pleasant time with classmates, friends. |
Praia de Faro
The Faro beach is one of the favourite hangout spots for Erasmus. The beach of Faro is located on the island called Ilha de Faro. Access to Faro beach is through a narrow bridge, crossing the Ria Formosa natural park and on the other side of the island there is the sea. The beach is situated on the ocean side and stretches for about 5 kilometres. The road leads to the beach in both directions and is lined with Portuguese holiday homes and small beach bars. Some students prefer to rent a house on the beach. There is a completely different community that has fun, does BBQ and always enjoy the warm sand and wavy sea. Why is the beach a great place for students? A lot of them probably chose Faro as their Erasmus destination because of the beach, mainly students from colder countries really enjoy the climate change. Faro offers really warm sunny days most of the year. That is why it is also perfect for all kinds of activities. You have two surf schools on the Faro beach (AMAR Surfing Academia, Clube Surf de Faro), where they will teach the newbies from the beginning how to handle the waves or borrow all the equipment and offer advices for the more advanced. The beach is not just surfing, you have a lot of kiters and you can try paddle board on the Ria Formosa. |
Another reason why Erasmus students visit the beach very often, even in colder weather, is the beach volleyball. A fun game where you can meet new people, make new friendships - that's the perfect opportunity for international students. Faro beach has its own field with volleyball net, so all you need is your own ball, there is usually a game played and people are very welcoming if you want to join the game. Imagine yourself sitting in the cosy sand, feeling the warm sun on your skin watching the waves break on the shore and all this while you are hanging out with you new international friends. Isn’t it a paradise?! |
Doca de Faro
Lined with palm trees and edges on to a delightful Faro marina, located in the city centre, makes the marina a perfect meet spot. If you want to go somewhere, if you want to hang out, if you don’t know what exactly your plans are, let’s meet at the Faro sign and then decide. If you visit the marina for the first time you will notice the famous Faro sign, you can't miss it, maybe that’s why Erasmus students make it their meeting point. Next to it you can find a statue - woman with a shell instead of a head siting on stairs and overlooking the beautiful sunny marina with parked boats. Stairs can create a lot of seats for people, so you can usually find a happy looking group of students enjoying the view there and maybe one or two beers. A favourite day for Erasmus students is the sunset rooftop parties at the famous Eva Hotel Rooftop. There is always some program prepared, so Erasmus students like to dress nicely for this glamorous party full of music, dancing, fun and the beautiful view of the sunset. If you walk closer to the water area, you will find a favourite place for the locals, students and also many tourists. For example the pier is the place where everyone goes at some point during the day, to admire the view, watch the planes land or take off, enjoy other groups that chill on the pier. Sometimes you can even meet some musicians that decided to come there to please our ears with some melodic tune while you admiring the beautiful sun as it goes down the horizon, touching the water and completely disappearing in it. |
Baixa de Faro
The nightlife in Faro is very rich and diverse, this Portuguese university city is proving to be a popular evening stop with all kinds of entertainment such as bars, restaurants, clubs, rooftop bars and more. For many students, Faro is their home, so it's natural that the city lights up after the sun goes down, its full of life and sounds of music. Like Faro Marina, Faro’s Downtown is one of the best places to enjoy a good atmosphere in the evenings. The beautiful streets with their typical Portuguese sidewalk are a big part of the city’s history. With several shops with regional products, restaurants, cafes and bars, the downtown of Faro is definitely the right place to enjoy the nightlife. Faro is actually a great city for people who like to have fun and go out at night. Now for Erasmus or students in general, the night probably starts after a very busy day with the school, the beach and some nice international dinner. After enjoying a little house party as a preparation for later, people are ready to go out. Why to have a house party, when you want to go out, you ask me? Nobody knows, but everyone gets used to it very fast. People usually go out around midnight and party until the morning hours. There are usually days when you have student parties in certain clubs... ... such as Patrimonio, Call in, Pipers. Or very popular among young people is a Brazilian bar Baixaria, where you can experience the real south American country vibe with live music. If you are a really big “party animal”, don’t forget to finish your night at clubs such as the First Floor, Twice or the Prestige Dance Club dancing your troubles away with your friends.
