Fernando Leal flew from the Azores to the Algarve, the region that welcomed him. He feels that Faro has become his city, and those who live there have got used to his voice. He plays and sings in the bars and streets of the city centre, and his songs like "Menina" and "Roubar-te um beijo" are already being heard by word of mouth.
Teresa Aleixo started very early. At the age of six she started piano lessons, and music has accompanied her life until today. Over the last few years she has released original songs and "Pudesse Eu" is her most recent single.
Saudade is the new theme that brings together the two Algarve authors and we had the opportunity to chat with them to find out how this new project came about.
How did this theme and partnership with Teresa come about?
Fernando Leal I was playing in a bar at 11 in the morning Teresa showed up and at the end, in the middle of a casual conversation, this question came up: "We have to make a song together". She went on with her life and I went on with mine. Three days later, I was in the car and out of nowhere a melody came to me while I was driving. I recorded it on my mobile phone so I wouldn't forget, I got home and started writing what would be the chorus today. Soon after the refrain more things came out, I sent it to Teresa and she said: "looooved it". However, a few days later we already had more ideas that we built together. It was a quick process.
What about the idea for the video clip?
FL The idea for the video was initially to be recorded in a studio, something simple. Then I had spoken to Luís Caracinha about doing a video in one take but something assumedly low cost... He produced that part with his indisputable good taste. I think he overcame everything. It's not easy to make a video like this in record time as we didn't have many opportunities to get together with Teresa, but with the epopee team there are no impossibilities. Thanks for everything.
"It was nice to be able to start the year creating, composing and working with friends, forgetting a bit about what the pandemic has already taken from me/us. I hope you enjoy the song as much as we do."
Teresa Aleixo The song Saudade came up after a conversation with Fernando Leal, in which, seeing the effect that the pandemic had caused to both of us, I invited him to compose something with me. A few days later he sent me a refrain and a bridge.
I liked it so much that I sat down at the piano and, suddenly, the chords and the stanzas came out. Complying with all safety regulations, we recorded everything with Luís Rocha, at Box Music Studios, in Faro.
How was the recording process taking into account the situation we were going through?
TA Ivo Martins, who accompanied the process, liked it so much that he wanted to record a rhythmic suggestion, even because he knew that both Fernando and I felt that the song needed something more. We worked in the studio and remotely for about a month. The video clip was in charge of the Epopeia Brands team, mainly with Luís Caracinha, Sara Martins and Didier Grelha.
We filmed everything in one day, at Fábrica da Cerveja, a space kindly lent by Faro Town Hall, also complying with all safety regulations. We are grateful for all the people who helped our Saudade to come into the world.
It was good to start the year creating, composing and working with friends, forgetting a little what the pandemic has already taken from me/us. I hope you enjoy the song as much as we do. It was with heart and soul that Fernando and I made it. It is available from today on the digital platforms and you can check the final result on our YouTube channels and on our social networks, and you can also listen to it on RUA fm.
